How sun light causes damage to your skin
Posted Under (Health Care, Skin Care) by admin on Mar Sun, 2009
Too much exposure to sunlight damages our eyes, painful skinburns and causes premature ageing.Sometimes,it becomes too dangerous causing skin cancer(due to the exposure of skin to mutagen).
Are you a pale skinned person?
Fair people should be very cautious as they lack melanin which acts as a natural sunscreen.Dark people have more melanin which can protect them from sunlight to some extent. So when we go out in sun,our body tends to produse more melanin to protect our skin from sunrays.
UV(Ultraviolet) rays and their harmful effects
Among the harmful rays emitted by Sun,UV rays are not absorbed by the earth’s atmosphere. There are 3 different kinds of UV rays viz, UVA,UVB and UVC.
- UVA rays(320 nm to 400 nm) having longer wavelength are not as harmful as UVB rays.but still, they penetrate deep into the skin which may lead to the damage of inner tissues. These rays can even penetrate glass, windows and hence we are exposed to these rays even when we are inside our house or ffice.
- UVB rays (290nm to 320 nm)are more powerful and hence they cause sunburns.Long exposure can even affect our immune system.hence we need to be very careful.the outer layer of the skin is the main victim. It also affects the collagen(protein) of dermis, the inner layer of skin. The process og ageing starts from this part of the skin. But the only point to be happy about UVB rays is that they don’t penetrate windows or glass and affect us.
- UVC rays(100nm to 290nm) are not our enemies as they are absorbeb by ozone layer completely.
